Product Details

Wales is a small country but it is packed with a huge variety of landscapes in which live and pass through an even more enormous variety of wildlife.

In Wild Places, TV naturalist Iolo Williams picks his top 40 nature sites in Wales, and tells us what is to be found there. From the Great Orme to Magor Marsh, from Oxwich to Gronant, they include coastal sites from estuaries to inaccessible cliffs – plus SKomer and other islands – valleys, mountains, meadows, bogs, woods and former industrial land. These wild places vary in size from the Elan Valley to Kenfig, squeezed between Porthcawl and Port Talbot steelworks.

Here are the rare Welsh daffodils of Coed-y-Bwl and the recently discovered clearwing moth, and in contrast the 2200 pairs of nesting sandwich terns and a site with an astounding 797 species of moth.

A list of facilities, details of access and directions is included for each site, which are illustrated with beautiful images. Wild Places is an invitation to discover natural Wales. As Iolo says, ‘Please use this book and above all enjoy our magnificent nature reserves and help to protect them so that they can inspire young naturalists for generations to come’.

Includes WTSWW’s Parc Slip Nature Reserve, Dinefwr Castle Woods, Teifi Marshes and the islands of Skomer and Skokholm.
